Tea plantations at MunnarMUNNAR HILL STATION, KERALA, INDIA

Munnar was the summer station of the British Government in the South. The town is situated on the confluence of three mountain streams-- Kannimalayar, Nallathanni and Kundala in Idukki district of Kerala.  It is more than 1700 metres above the sea level.

Much of Munnar is surrounded by tea plantations. The plantations of Kannan Devan Hill Produce Company (formerly Tata Tea Limited) is one of the biggest tea plantations in the world. Places to visit include the Mount Carmel Church, built in the year 1898 and Top Station besides the tea plantations.

The nearby Indo Swiss Project at Madupetti, the Madupetti dam, Pallivasal Hydroelectric Project, Eravikulam National Park and Anamudi peak could be part of an itinerary around Munnar. A sight of this decade will be the gregarious blooming of kurinji plants
in 2006 on the mountain slopes near Munnar.
